Matthew Burton Brown professionally known as Matt Brown is an American mixed martial artist. He competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the Welterweight division. He is also known by the name, The Immortal. He turned professional in 2004. He has posted 21 wins out of 37 professional fights in his career to date. He was a contestant on the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter television series. He was ranked at No. 15 in the official UFC Welterweight rankings.

He was homeschooled for two years before attending Greeneview High School. He worked as a machinist in a low paying factory job. Frustrated by his pay, he turned into drugs and alcohol. He was addicted to meth and regularly used cocaine. He survived heroin overdose, had been homeless, and had been to prison, by his early twenties.
His interests in MMA started while practicing various submission holds that he had seen on VHS tapes featuring Ken Shamrock on friends. He fought his first fight without any training and ended up winning.
His first formal training was at a Japanese jiu-jitsu gym. He later transitioned to a Jorge Gurgel affiliate, which led him to full MMA training.
He won the International Sport Combat Federation (ISCF) East Coast Welterweight Championship in February 2007. He defeated Douglas Lima by referee stoppage due to strikes at 2:50 of the second round.
He was having money problems and thought his career was over. But, The Ultimate Fighter trials came along and selected him to be on the show. He then started splitting time training with Matt Hume in Seattle, Washington and at Throwdown Training Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He later defeated John Howard, Chris Cope, Stephen Thompson, Luis Ramos, Mike Swick in his upcoming fights.
He earned his first Fight of the Night bonus award when he defeated Dan Hardy via TKO at UFC on Fox 7 in April 2013.
He earned his first Knockout of the Night bonus award defeating Mike Pyle at UFC Fight Night in August 2013.
He faced Brazilian Erick Silva in his main-event debut at UFC Fight Night 40. He defeated Silva via TKO earning him Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night bonus awards.
He also defeated Robbie Lawler, Tim Means, Diego Sanchez in later bouts.
He was expected to face Carlos Condit in April 2018 at UFC on Fox 29. However, he was pulled out from the fight due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
