Ken Roczen Career
Roczen started his career in the European motocross in 2009, he won back-to-back Masters Championships in Germany before being the youngest rider ever to score the MX2 World Championship, in 2011. The year after, he was a member of the Motocross of Nations-winning Team Germany. With success, he relocated moved to the U.S. to race full-time. After finding his footing in the States, He won the 2013 AMA Supercross 250SX West title and finished second in the AMA Motocross 250MX Championship.
In 2014 he moved up to the premier class, were made his presence felt, and solidified his status among the top 450SX riders by scoring his first win at the opening round in Anaheim. He won the US again at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome before wrapping up the season in third overall and earning AMA Supercross Rookie of the Year honors. He later followed that up with a stellar showing throughout the AMA Pro Motocross season, where he won five rounds and landing on the podium four additional times en route to his first 450MX Championship, capping off the season with Rookie of the Year honors in that series as well.
In the 2015 season, he won the Anaheim opener, the remainder of the stadium series was a rollercoaster for the German. He notched one more AMA Supercross victory before being sidelined with an injury for the latter part of the series. He later closed out the 2015 season by finishing second overall in AMA Motocross and winning the Monster Energy Cup.
He finished the runner-up in AMA Supercross, have five victories along the way, but it was outdoors where he really shined, dominating the AMA Motocross field by topping 20 of 24 motos in the 12-round series to land his second 450MX crown. In 2017, he joined Team Honda HRC and dominated the opening two rounds of the AMA Supercross series before he had a crash at Anaheim 2 ended his season. For almost one year later, he lined back up on the gate and was quickly battling for podiums and race wins.
He though as a freak accident with another rider in San Diego left him sidelined once again. Incredibly, Roczen was able to rehabilitate himself enough to line up at the AMA Pro Motocross opener. He spent the 12-round series building his strength and speed, capturing six podium overall finishes and two moto victories en route to third in the championship and being awarded Sportsman of the Year.
He had a strong showing throughout the AMA Supercross in 2019, he completed fourth overall with six podium appearances and five additional top-five scores. Though having suffered from illness throughout much of the AMA Pro Motocross season, he was impressive, securing three overall victories including a dominant 1-1 performance at Unadilla. He landed on the podium four additional times for third overall in the series. In 2020, he is healthy and determined to put himself and his CRF450R back on top of the podium but knows it will take patience and consistency.
